Vanessa Amorosi

VANESSA AMOROSI

Vanessa Amorosi learned a long time ago what it really means to be perfect. Now she’s written a song about it.  “When I was young I was dancing every night of the week, not really singing much at all.  Some of my cousins had entered a singing competition at the Highpoint Shopping centre and never won. I made a pact with my mother that if I entered and won, I would concentrate on becoming a singer and stop harping about dancing and all the other things I wanted to do.”

That thought has inspired Vanessa’s powerful rock/pop smash new single, PERFECT.  “That’s what perfect means to me. Love comes in different shapes and forms and I don’t expect a person to be too perfect, because I’m far from it. The imperfections are what I end up loving. I like things that are real. Every night I do this same walk to clear my head … more

Kate Miller-Heidke Touring

KATE MILLER-HEIDKE

Kate Miller-Heidke, following a successful and life altering Australian tour with Cyndi Lauper, murmurs about Kate reached the ears of Los Angeles producer Mickey Petralia (Beck, Peaches, eels, Dandy Warhols).  Over the phone, he seemed to have the right mix of humour, enthusiasm and weird old electronic stuff, so Kate, Keir, bassist Ben McCarthy and drummer Steve Pope hopped a plane for two months of madness.

"Songwriting was always too personal and I felt too self conscious to collaborate," Kate says. "But after a certain point, I just lost my inhibitions and I didn’t care.  We got into a groove where we bring out the best of each other.  These songs are better than anything we'd written individually before." CURIOUSER radiates a newfound sense of mutual certainty … more

THE BLACK SORROWS & JOE CAMILLERI

The Black Sorrows are one of Australia’s most loved bands who have sold more than one million albums and released classic singles such as Chained to the Wheel, Harley & Rose and Hold On To Me returns with their first new studio album in eight years and Roarin’ Town sits comfortably alongside the band’s best work to date.

The album even features a song that’s a sequel of sorts to Harley & Rose.  “I look upon Levi as the son of Harley & Rose,” Joe Camilleri smiles.  “If they had a baby, it would be Levi.”  With its intoxicating mix of joyous, uplifting music and heartbreaking songs about love gone wrong, Roarin Town recalls the Sorrows’ best work. But it’s no nostalgia trip. The album is a bold step forward for an artist who’s never been afraid of change … more

It's certainly been quite a journey.  Higgins began her music career singing standards with her older brother's band when she was just 13.  She was thrust into the limelight in 2001 when she won a national song writing competition run by an influential national alternative radio network while still in high school.  Instead of capitalizing on the moment, she … more
